a poem a day by A.J.Rao

Faces in the ring

Sorry, he would not know Viet Kong
Enough to hate them nor their faces.
They too did not know them enough
But they liked to hear them in bang.

Napalm would make soft pulp faces
Like fruit marmalade secret recipe.
One did not know the faces enough.
Faces look alike in Vietnam jungles.

They would box pale moon shadows
As wolves howled in the mid nights.
A jazz sounded eerie on pulp faces.
He preferred known faces in a ring.

(Legendary boxer Mohamad Ali who passed away yesterday had refused to be involved with the Vietnam war saying “Sorry I have nothing against the Viet Kong”)
